Director and actor Jerry Dixon will become artistic director of Village Theatre in June, following the retirement of longtime Artistic Director Steve Tomkins.

Tomkins, who has served as artistic director of the Issaquah-based theater for some 25 years, helped build the theater into one that creates new musicals as well as presents established ones, develops kids’ performance skills through its Kidstage program, and now has 20,000 subscribers. By the end of this season, Tomkins will have directed 64 mainstage productions, many of which he also choreographed, according to a Village Theatre news release.

Dixon has been a longtime collaborator with Village Theatre, directing a variety of its mainstage shows, including “Show Boat,” “The Full Monty,” and last season’s original work “A Proper Place.” He has also directed at venues including New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and performed in Broadway shows including “Once On This Island” and “Five Guys Named Moe.”
